I spent my Friday at Transmedia, Hollywood 4 held at UCLA. The event was co-directed by Denise Mann and Henry Jenkins. The bulk of the discussion was about taking transmedia best practices and applying them to enact social change and benefit culture and society. One panelist got a laugh when she related that most of the information around transmedia is geared toward Harry Potter fans. Check out the videos from each panel when they go up on the website.

Dig this new promo for Shwood’s new Stone Collection. Yeah the glasses are cool, but it’s the way they use storytelling in the promo that I find fascinating. They’ve fashioned a little origin story that generates curiosity, then interest and, with the reveal at the end, awe.

I loved this short film made by Iconoclast for Bagua shoes for many reasons. It reminded me of a time when I was writing simpler, teen-driven, all nighter movies and stories. There’s a unity of time and place in stories like this. The music is fantastic and the fantasy elements give it a whimsical feel without diving too deep into a surrealist world. In a drug/alcohol/lack-of-sleep laden night, one can imagine being serenaded by a tiny, dead mariachi band on the floor of a city bus.
